The New Year has arrived, for some with a bang. For others it gently slips past in the night with the dawn bringing another day. Out with the old and in with the new, if you live by metaphors. There is one piece of un finished business, The Super Bowl. For billions of people around the world it’s more than just a football game. It’s the event that, when finished releases the new year clock to start ticking. Having been to a number of Super bowl parties in my life I can honestly state that, the simpler the food the better. Most Super Bowl parties are grazing events, as they should be. No formal settings at the table. Just food you can eat with your hands and have a great time. It does not matter if you get sauce or dip on your scoring pool ticket. Doubt if you would be the only one. The recipes I suggest for Super Bowl are easy, fun and delicious. Using these as a main course (s) lets you build a multitude of other snack around them. Or, you can choose to prepare only these, add your favorite beverages and let the fun begin. Either way make sure you have plenty of napkins. One of my favorite dishes for this time of year is Chili Jeffy. Its my version of Chili Colorado with a couple of twists. This is a ”eat with your hands” dish. You could use a spoon but a tortilla works much better. Chicken wings are another favorite. My friend Ron makes some of the best wings I’ve ever eaten. (By my count I have eaten about 900 lbs or more in my life time). As you will see in the recipe you can make them for folks with Lilly Lips, normal lips, or “don’t eat that it makes Botox explode” versions. You choose, but don’t try and make to different versions; some wise acre will mix them up when you are not looking. Again, finger food with a lot of flavor. Finally Flanken ribs. Flanken represents the cut. These come from the chuck area of the steer. They are longs thin strips of beef and done right they are great. Try any or all of these are your Super Bowl party and they should be a hit. The only thing you will have to worry about is the point spread.
