Just for fun!

Took a little trip to Sublimity last weekend an attended Smokin down the Highway. It was well worth the trip. The Jimmy and his crew did a great job and I think “Smokin” will become a have to event for a lot of folks. My hat is tipped to those who made Smokin happen.

Also on last week’s BBQ Nation, Andy Black, Cort and myself swapped recipes and tall tales it was fun. We were joined by Colton Knittig from Grillight. Colt is the man who invented the Grillight spatula, tongs among other BBQ tools. Colton was nice enough to send me a set of tongs and spatula. I think they will come in very handy during the longer winter months. You can take a gander at Colton’s products at www.grillight.com

I’ll be adding a few new recipes from the show to both the BBQ Nation web page at http://kxl.com/shows/barbecue-nation and www.thecowboycook.com.

Give them a try at home if you are brave enough (that really applies only to Andy’s recipes). This week coming up on BBQ Nation Aaron Franklin from Franklins in Austin Texas will be on the show. Don’t miss that one. Aaron’s new book Franklin Barbecue A Meat Smoking Manifesto is hitting the book stores now in your area. You can also find it online.

Franklins is to BBQ what Hollywood is to movies. It is the place to be.

If you missed AM Northwest on Tuesday I did a pork sirloin roast covered in homemade salsa, baked with pineapple slices and Walla Walla onion slices. It’s very simple and really easy to prepare, cook and serve. http://www.katu.com/amnw/segments/A-Simple-Supper-from-The-Cowboy-Cook-320630782.html

You might get a kick out of the new way to deal with a watermelon. A little vodka might be in order.

Watch the clip and you will see what I’m talking about.

Until next time.
